When can I teach the Refresher Class?
Q: When is a student eligible to take the handgun refresher class?
A1: If your student obtained their CHP AFTER July 1st, 2025 and they have successfully completed an 8-hour handgun training class that complies with the current requirements per C.R.S. § 18-12-203. I print this compliance on my signed and dated student certificates.
A2: If your student obtained their CHP BEFORE July 1st, 2025 and they're looking to renew their permit. Existing holders of valid permits only need the CHP refresher class to renew their permits.
If in doubt, check with your local Sheriff.
